    Good Day All.

I'll apologise in advance for the wall-o-text.

I'm hoping to recruit one or possibly two extra pairs of hands to help with planning and building up our Rock Band stage in the days before BreachLAN 50.

If you've seen our Rock Band systems before, you'll know there's a lot of physical stuff involved in the show. Getting this stuff into the hall is an insane amount of work. The other part that isn't seen is the work beforehand that goes into testing, planning and programming where everything is going to go.

In the build up to this years Rock Band show, I've taken the entire week before the LAN off work to rebuild my entire lighting rig and control system from the ground up. Every fixture will be stripped apart, cleaned, repaired if required and put back together again. All the trussing / lifting and suspension gear will be inspected. From there, the entire lighting control desk will be also rebuilt from scratch for a new, super slick lighting rig which should be able to one-up last year with an even more spectacular show.

To help with this, it would be great to recruit at least one, hopefully two extra pairs of hands as roadies for the show. You don't need any specific technical knowledge or special skills. All you need is to be prepared to do a lot of work for little reward and be interested in learning how concert AV systems are put together.

If you want to be able to help with this, here is what you need to be able to do.

    1) You absolutely have to be available the full day Thursday 1st August and right up until the end of the LAN on 5th August to help.
    2) You need to be fit enough that a full day (16 - 20 hours, of which, 8-12 hours are manual labour) is comfortably within your limits.
    3) You need to be able to lift and carry 20kg of weight comfortably and without assistance (equivalent to about two buckets of water, a heavy suitcase or bag of fertilizer / cement).
    4) You need to have basic skills with simple hand tools. Screwdrivers, spanners etc.
    5) Not afraid of working on stepladders / scaffolding.
    6) Sober enough during the Rock Band performance to run lights / sound while I'm playing on stage :D

If any of the following applies, it's also very helpful. If you don't it doesn't matter, but it will be helpful.
    1) Able to help Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st July. 8-10 hour day with minimal manual labor. This will be where equipment is dismantled, cleaned, repaired, serviced, re-lamped, tested etc and where the programming of the control desk will begin. All of this will take place at Atmosphere Lighting and Sound, 67-69 Nelson Street, Aberdeen.
    2) Driving licence with category B allowance (vehicles up to 3,500kg). If you already have insurance that allows you to drive category B vehicles this will be a HUGE help.
    2) Foundation understanding of single phase electrical systems.
    3) Foundation knowledge of DMX lighting control systems.
    3) Foundation knowledge of AV signal / Cable types (HDMI, RCA, Line/Mic levels).
    4) Foundation knowledge of high power audio systems (subwoofers, main, tweeters).
    5) Foundation knowledge of audio mixing and amplification systems (mixers, microphones, signal processors, amplifiers etc).

If you are able to help, you'll get the following.
    • Meals and drinks will be taken care of on days you're able to help (inc Mon, Tues, Weds)
    • 2x Roadie T-Shirts with names (a different design from the normal BreachLAN T-shirts)
    • Transport will be taken care of if you need it (on days you are able to help, and to/from LAN if required)
    • All PPE / Safety equipment will be provided
    • All relevant training on how things work and how these systems operate
    • A small case of drinks of choice for the start of LAN (soft drinks / beer / cider etc).
    • Saturday night pizza will be provided free of charge
    • Double space upgrade including 2nd monitor / extra appliance allowance (if space allows)
    • First choice of sleeping space (we'll be at the venue first)
    • Insurance to drive a commercial vehicle (If required).
Also just a heads up, if you would like to help but aren't able to help full days, that's fine. We certainly need as many hands as possible on Thursday (7pm until early Friday am). Please just let us know if you're able to help on this evening. Many hands make light work and the more people who are able to come out Thursday evening to help the better.

Also, don't worry. Rock Band is absolutely happening and in no way dependent on if any extra help comes in or not. It just would really make things easier for me if there is another pair of hands to help figure out some of the logistics, program some of the lighting control systems, carrying heavy stuff and plugging in cables.

PM me, email, Facebook or reply here if you want more help or want to volunteer.

    Thanks for reading. Hopefully

I'm clever, willing and able with some college experience of lighting and sound for studio filming setup. It's been a while, but I know how to be careful around equipment and have had my moving and handling and safety training.
I've got a lot of time off this month so I'll be available all of the above dates. Also, I've got a little car and an (AM/A/B1/B) driving license for shifting stuff about.
